Christian actor, writer and producer Kirk Cameron will headline a story hour event in Hendersonville on Saturday. Cameron will read his children’s book on the Fruit of the Spirit, “As You Grow,” during the story time event.
The story time event was originally scheduled to take place at the Hendersonville Public Library, but was later moved to the Fire Place Fellowship in Hendersonville in preparation for a larger-than-expected crowd that surpasses the capacity of the library.
In Hendersonville, Cameron will be joined by Missy Robertson from Duck Dynasty and women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines who competed against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas. Surfer and author Bethany Hamilton will also be joining the event via video chat, according to Fox News.
Cameron’s story time event in Hendersonville is part of his work with BRAVE Books to “win back Story Hour and stand up for truth and Biblical values.”
BRAVE Books is a conservative publishing company with a goal to teach children to “love their God and country” by publishing books promoting conservative values like family, tradition, and patriotism in order to provide kids with positive role models.
Cameron’s “As You Grow” book was published in December, and over 50 public libraries in big cities either refused or ignored his request at the time for a children’s story hour, despite hosting and promoting events such as drag queen story hours, as previously reported by The Tennessee Star.
Only after public outcry was Cameron able to schedule a story time event in Indianapolis at one of the libraries that originally denied his request. Over 2,000 people showed up to support Cameron and his book.
BRAVE Books states its purpose is to “honor God by shaping a future generation of Americans, who will fight for a nation defined by freedom, truth, humility, bravery, and compassion.” The publishing company’s mission is to “help parents instill a love of truth in their children so that the children will withstand harmful progressive influences.”
